LOC MS service facility is open to whole chemistry community within ETH Zurich, and LOC research groups have higher priority. Our service offers 1) mass determination for confirmation of known compounds; 2) MS-aided structural elucidation of unknown compounds; 3) MS-based purification and quantitation (HTS).

LOC MS service lab is equipped with 4 top mass spectrometers:
Waters' Micromass AutoSpec Ultima (EI-triSector) for exact mass determination of volatile organic compounds;
Bruker's solariX (ESI/MALDI-FTICR) for exact mass determination of mid-size compounds;
Bruker's UltraFlex II (MALDI-TOF) for large biooligomers, biopolymers, supramolecular assemblies, and synthetic polymer;
Bruker's maXis (ESI/NanoSpray-Qq-TOF) for exact mass determination and identification of polar compounds.
More details please refer to Instrumentation.

Sample submission is recommended together with the detailed information of the samples. Delivery of uncalibrated spectra is within measuring day. Report for exact mass calibration and interpretation will be delivered in 2-3 working days. Electronic copy in pdf and export will be provided to users per email if required. More information on post-processing of mass spectra will be found under links of MS tools.

Choice of suitable ionization method is the most critical step of mass spectrometrical analysis. The most appliable ionizations at our ms service include EI, ESI(NanoSpray) and MALDI. How to choose a most appropriate ionization method for your samples please get instructions from MS team or refer to the past experience from your group. For some "difficult" samples it is strongly recommended that users bring available info in literatures.

Other important info can be found under the link of FAQ or MS links. If you have more questions, please contact MS service team.
